Listening Deeply

by Rev. Brendan Curran, Assoc. Minister         –          June 15, 2017

listenAs many of you may know I’ve been hosting community office hours at The Coffee Depot every Friday from 3 pm to 5 pm.  I got the idea of hosting community office hours from several clergy colleagues who make themselves available in a public place as a way of reaching out to the congregation and as a way of being present to the wider community.  Several people in the congregation recently approached me during […]

Our New Riverwalk Accessibility Project

After wrestling with several proposals to provide more friendly wheelchair access to the Education building, the Church Council has approved construction of an ADA compliant ramp from the driveway by the church across the back of the Education building to the door to Fellowship Hall, and to install a push-button activation system by the door into the hall.

Cropped Site Plan

The proposed ramp will cut the distance from the sanctuary to fellowship hall by about 50%, avoiding the trek down the driveway and around the back of the building. This should increase […]

Senior Women’s Lunch

What a delightful day it was on June 8th. Our Membership Team and Women in Faith Group put on our annual spring Senior Women’s Lunch. We enjoyed great food and fellowship and had a chance at seconds of strawberry shortcake!

Jubilation Sunday

Sunday, May 21st at 10 am

There is a special Worship Service for All Ages in celebration of the end of the Church School year.  We’ll celebrate our diversity and the hope for peace as our church school children tell the story of “God’s Dream”, and we all worship together.  There will be an abbreviated traditional service that will continue with a service project in the education building.  The congregation is invited to dress casually as there’s the possibility of making a mess as we will be painting our own version of “God’s doors are open to all”!

Celebration of Confirmation – 2017

What a wonderful day it was! We welcomed six new members into our church through confirmation this year. The youth led nearly the entire service even writing the Morning Prayer (see below) for the day. They did an excellent job! Welcome to BCCUCC!

Morning Prayer

Holy and beautiful God, you are all-loving and patient. You are all-caring and all-togetherness. You are our true friend. You are divine and you are still speaking to us. We ask that you bless us this day as we join our church and take this meaningful step on our faith journey. We pray for the health […]

Some Pictures from Lay Person’s Sunday

What a great day we had celebrating Lay People’s Sunday! It also happened to be our Earth Day celebration so you can see some of the lovely floral arrangements our Mission and Justice Team put together to decorate our sanctuary. Besides being an Earth Day recognition this year, Lay Persons’ Sunday (or Laity Sunday) is celebration of the work of the “lay people” (those non-ordained) in the church. We had a tremendous group of people sharing their faith and prayers today and thank them all for their efforts and courage!

Here are a couple of slide shows, but don’t blink, they move […]

Senior Youth Group Mission Trip to H.O.M.E.

For April vacation (2017) we sent a service team of 9 youth and 4 adult chaperones, led by Rev. Brendan Curran, to H.O.M.E. in Orland, Maine. They worked on a number of projects.

Day 1 – The group traveled from BCCUCC to Orland. A long day of travel eased by seeing old friends (Rev. Jeff and Kathleen Larsen) on the way. (see the picture above for the parking lot reunion.) The group then settled in and gathered for a game. A video is available for download. (Technical difficulties are preventing us from embedding it here. Sorry!)

Day 2 – Today […]
