After wrestling with several proposals to provide more friendly wheelchair access to the Education building, the Church Council has approved construction of an ADA compliant ramp from the driveway by the church across the back of the Education building to the door to Fellowship Hall, and to install a push-button activation system by the door into the hall.

Cropped Site Plan

The proposed ramp will cut the distance from the sanctuary to fellowship hall by about 50%, avoiding the trek down the driveway and around the back of the building. This should increase the likelihood of more of our members being able to stay for coffee hour. The new ramp will demonstrate our commitment to that part of our Affirmation of Welcome related to “physical ability”. An important side benefit is a scenic alternative for both the handicapped and others walking from the parking lot to the church and back.

The estimated cost of the ramp and door is $30,000 and we are currently in the process of gathering more exact data on the cost. Your contribution to this worthwhile project will increase access to our church facilities for many of our present and future members. Commitments can be made to this project by sending a check with a note “Riverwalk Project” in the memo to the church office (461 County Road, Barrington, RI 02806) or by contacting Pat Stoddard (pat@bccucc.org or 401-246-0111 ext. 102).
