Take Action on Social Justice Issues......

Our Social Action and Justice Ministry Team works to bring justice issues to the attention of the congregation.  This page contains information on issues of current concern.  You are invited to look it over and then take action on issues right now!  Click on the links associated with each story for more information.

For information on other justice issues, visit the One-Stop UCC Advocacy Center at http://www.ucctakeaction.org

To receive regular e-mail updates from the Justice and Peace Action Network, a mailing list originating from the United Church of Christ Justice and Witness Ministries, contact them at ucctakeaction@ucc.org

International Day of Prayer for Peace
International Day of Prayer for PeaceOn  September 21, 2010, churches and communities throughout the world will participate in the International Day of Prayer for Peace.  The World Council of Churches is encouraging churches to highlight Africa as a thematic focus for 2010 to mirror the focus of the final year of the Decade to Overcome Violence.
A Million Minutes for Peace
million minutes for peaceOdyssey Networks invites you to participate in A Million Minutes for Peace.  People of all different faiths from all over the world will stop at noon and pray for peace for one minute — each in their own way on September 21, 2010, the U.N. International Day of Prayer.  Please watch the 60-second video and join us by pledging your prayer for peace.

The UCC Takes Action Against Torture

Torture is the worst agony that one human being can inflict on another.  Whether physical or psychological, torture is destructive of the human spirit for both the tortured person and the torturer.  As people of faith, we believe that each human being is made in the image and likeness of God.  When someone tortures another child of God, they torture Christ.

The Conference Ministers of the New England Region (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island) in a May, 2008, Pastoral Letter call on the “clergy and members of United Church of Christ congregations in our six New England Conferences, to join with us in this witness to abolish US-sponsored torture.”

To read the full text of the letter click on http://www.ricucc.org/files/Download/pastoral-epistle-final.pdf.
