Ministry
Teams
A ministry team is a group of lay people who advance the mission of our church by developing and implementing programs and activities guided by the church’s mission statement. The Christian
Education and Youth Ministries Team (CE&YM) is responsible for the Christian
education programs and
activities of the church, including church school, FAITHWorks,
confirmation, youth fellowship and
acolytes. Together with the Christian Education Assistant, it finds
volunteers to be Church School teachers and aides, FAITHWorks disciples and
shepherds, and assists the volunteers by providing curriculum and ideas.
CE&YM hosts two annual all-church picnics – on the first and last
Sundays of the church school year. The Membership Ministry Team reaches out to persons who may be interested in attending or uniting with the church. On New Member Sundays it provides a breakfast for new members and their families to welcome them into our church community. It also provides a special breakfast for the confirmands and their families on Confirmation Sunday. In addition, it arranges for congregation members to act as greeters before each Sunday’s service. The Music Ministry Team is responsible, with the clergy and organist/choir director, for the music programs of the church. It is responsible for the care and security of all things relating to music, including the instruments. It also works with the organist/choir director to put together the annual Music Appreciation Sunday. The Christian Fellowship Ministry Team is responsible
for developing programs of support for
the church family and for
developing a regular schedule of fellowship activities.
It sends out cards each week to church members who are suffering –
whether from a bereavement or illness. The Missions Ministry Team is responsible for administering the mission and benevolence program of the church. BCCUCC is a “5 for 5” church – meaning that we participate in all four of the national UCC offerings, in addition to financially supporting our local conference. The team is responsible for mailing out the materials for the four collections, namely “One Great Hour of Sharing”, “Neighbors in Need”, “The Christmas Fund”, and “Strengthen the Church.” The Social Action and Justice Ministry Team works to promote a more peaceful and just society and world by developing a Christian awareness of and response to such issues as violence, poverty, and the environment. It seeks to relate BCCUCC to other organizations in the community having similar aims. It has hosted a number of informational meetings at the church, bringing in outside speakers on a variety of different justice and environmental issues. At Christmastime it sponsors various collections of gifts for those in need, and it also sponsors a year round collection of food for TapIn, our local food pantry. The Chancel Ministry Team is responsible for the
provision, maintenance and care of all items in the chancel.
It also arranges for donors to give the altar flowers each Sunday, as
well as the special flowers at Christmas and Easter.
The
Ushering Ministry Team is
responsible for providing and training ushers for all worship services in the
sanctuary. The Finance Ministry Team is responsible for developing and administering the
church’s budget and for managing the financial affairs of the church. The Buildings and Grounds Ministry Team is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and improvements to church properties including the parsonages. It also organizes “Church Clean-Up Days” as needed. The
Stewardship Ministry Team is responsible for a program of stewardship for
the church. It plans, organizes,
promotes and conducts an annual
membership canvass based on the total fund-raising effort that is
necessary to support the annual budget. The Endowment Ministry Team is responsible for the
promotion and investment oversight of the church’s endowment fund.
It is also responsible for a program of outreach to
and education of the membership to encourage and facilitate gifts to endowment,
whether by outright gift, deferred gift or bequest. The Nominating Ministry Team is responsible for finding prospective candidates willing to serve as church officers, Deacons, delegates, or on ministry teams. The slate of nominees is voted on at the Annual Meeting of the church. The
Personnel Ministry Team develops
compensation, benefits and personnel policies for the professional and paid
staff of the church for approval by the Church Council. The Pastor Parish Relations Ministry Team is responsible for
facilitating communications and fostering relationships of trust and
understanding within and among the congregation, the ministers and the staff.
It provides a sounding board for the church membership, the ministers and
staff. |
